Before serving as secretary of culture of São Paulo, Brazil, Marcelo Araujo was director of the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo and director of the Lasar Segall Museum in São Paulo. He collaborates with museum institutions in Brazil and abroad, having served as advisor to the Cultural Foundation Ema Gordon Klabin in São Paulo. He holds a degree in law from the University of São Paulo-USP, specialized in museology at the School of Sociology and Politics Foundation of São Paulo and holds a doctorate from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the USP. He served as president of the Paulista Association of Museum Curators and the Museology Regional Council of São Paulo, and was a member of the Federal Council of Museology, the Executive Council of the Brazilian Committee of the International Council of Museums – ICOM, and the board of directors of Fundação Bienal de São Paulo and the Jose and Paulina Nemirovsky Foundation.
