Gustavo Buntinx / Peru

Micromuseum ("there is room at the back") - Founder

Gustavo Buntinx is an art historian, critic and curator. He has served for three decades as the “chauffeur” of Micromuseo (“there is room at the back”), a unique traveling museum. In this role, he has worked to fill the void in Lima’s museum world by offering a museum experience that is varied, diverse and accessible. He has previously served as director of the Museum of Italian Art and the San Marcos Art Museum in Lima, and as managing director of the San Marcos Cultural Center. In 2011, he was the general curator of the first photography biennial in Lima. His books and curatorial experience explore the interplay among art and violence, politics and religion. Buntinx is in the process of preparing an extensive publication on Peruvian “museotopies,” in addition to a glossary of terms resulting from his Micromuseo experience. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and is a founding member of Civil Society Collective, which has organized Lava la bandera (Wash the Flag) and other activities relevant to the cultural overthrow of Peruvian dictators Vladimiro Montesinos and Alberto Fujimori.
