Lawyer and Economic Development Specialist (University of Buenos Aires), Master in Sociology and Political Science (University of Paris). Nun began his teaching career at the University of California (Berkeley). He was project manager at ILPES / ECLAC and at Di Tella Institute. Taught at FLACSO-Mexico and, between 1970 and 1993, served as Professor of Political Science at Toronto University. Since 1984, he has been Senior Researcher at CONICET. He created the Center for the Analysis of Democracy in Latin American (Buenos Aires) and in 1998 founded the Instituto de Altos Estudios Sociales at the National University of San Martin, where he currently directs the Ph.D. in Sociology and a Master in Political Sciences and Economic Sociology. Between 2004 and 2009 he was Secretary of Culture of the Presidency of the Nation of Argentina (2004-09). Nun has received several awards and distinctions such as the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, a Doctorate Honoris Causa from the National University of San Martin and the Orden del Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins. He is the author of various books, among the latest: Democracia. ¿Gobierno del pueblo o gobierno de los políticos? (2000); Marginalidad y exclusión social (2001); La desigualdad y los impuestos  (2011); El sentido común y la política (2015). etc.
