Karen Bernedo Morales is president and cofounder of the Asociación Cultural Museo Itinerante Arte por la Memoria and researcher and director of the Virtual Museum of Arts and Political Violence of Perú. She is experienced in starting and implementing social projects about memory, gender and human rights related to armed conflict and political violence in Peru, using visual culture and arts as tools for social mediation. She has directed and produced documentary films about arts and politics and social art videos, and is an advisor for the NGO for Women Rights. Morales is cofounder and current president of the collective project “Museo Itinerante Arte Por La Memoria,” which won the National Prize of Human Rights in 2012 and the Prince Claus Award in 2014. In 2009, she won the Escuelab scholarship residency to conduct research on political violence in Peru and the role art plays in mediating conflict. Currently she is directing a documentary film about representations of trauma at carnivals in post-conflict Peruvian society. She holds a master’s degree in visual anthropology.
