Ticio Escobar is a curator, lecturer, art critic, cultural promoter, lawyer and director of the Museo de Arte Indígena (Museum of Indigenous Arts) and the Center of Visual Arts in Asunción, Paraguay. Previously he was director of culture for the city of Asunción and minister of culture of Paraguay. He authored the National Law Culture of Paraguay and has served as the president of the Paraguay chapter of the International Association of Art Critics. He is a faculty member of the doctorate program in philosophy in aesthetics and art theory at the University of Chile, and serves as vice president of the Carlos Colombino Lailla Foundation, Center for Visual Arts / Museo del Barro in Asunción. He has published on Paraguayan and Latin American art. Among his various distinctions, Escobar has received the Bartolomé de las Casas Prize in 2004 from the Casa de America in Madrid for his contribution to the development of indigenous culture, and recognition from the International Association of Art Critics in 2011 for his outstanding contributions in the field of international criticism.
