AAM ANNUAL MEETING 2015

Reimagining the Museum was presented in the AAM Annual Meeting and Museum Expo held in Atlanta April 26-29. The session was called “Reimagining the Museum: AAM + TyPA Foundation Convening 2015”, and took place on Tuesday 28th at the Georgia World Congress Center.

In partnership with ICOM-US and the Argentine-based TyPA Foundation, AAM will host “Reimagining the Museum: A Vision for Museum Professionals in Central, South and North America” in Buenos Aires in fall 2015. Professionals from Colombia, Brazil and Argentina will dialogue with U.S. museum professionals to advance a shared understanding on issues of social relevance, community engagement and museum excellence in Latin American and the U.S. to support and strengthen practices, operations and programs. This session will be simultaneously interpreted in Mandarin and Spanish.

– Américo Castilla / Fundación TyPA, Argentina
President of Fundación TyPA -Theory & Practice of the Arts, Argentina. Former Argentine Director of Museums and Heritage, and Director of the National Museum of Fine Arts, Buenos Aires. Academic Director of the Lab for Museum Managment, an institute that provides training to Latin American museum professionals.
– Maria Mercedes Gonzalez Caceres – Medellin Museum of Modern Art, Colombia
General Director of the Medellín Museum of Modern Art. M.A. in Media Studies from The New School, NYC, specialist in Cultural Studies and B.A. in Political Science from Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá.
– María Salcedo Repolês -Inhotim, Brazil
I have worked at Instituto Inhotim (Brumadinho) for around 10 years (since 2015), having had experience with education and art production departments of other museums such as Palácio das Artes (Belo Horizonte), Casa Fiat (Belo Horizonte), Galeria Escola Guignard (Belo Horizonte) and TyPA (Buenos Aires). I have also worked with education and art inside and outside the classroom space having lessoned in private schools, public schools and NGOs in Brazil, Ecuador and India.
– James Volkert – Exhibition Associates, US
James Volkert, principal of Exhibition Associates, a firm that consults internationally with museums on exhibition and facilities development, new programs, and management. Prior to becoming a consultant, Jim was the former Associate Director for the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI), Smithsonian Institution, in Washington D.C. He has served as a consultant to numerous museums nationally and internationally.
