Heledd Fychan is Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Amgueddfa Cymru – the organisation that is home to the seven national museums of Wales. She leads on the strategic development of the organisation as well as its international relations, and secures support for its work which is rooted in Cultural Rights and Cultural Democracy.
Heledd works closely with the Federation of Museums and Galleries of Wales to promote the power of Museums to change and transform communities and helped found and establish the annual Welsh Museums Festival, which is now in its sixth year.
Heledd is also a Board member for the UK’s Museums Association, and Chairs its Nations and Ethics Committees. As Chair of both Committees, she is not afraid of tackling some difficult issues for the sector and is currently working with the Ethics Committee to provide further guidance on ethical issues such as sponsorship and decolonisation of collections.
She is also a political activist, and since 2017, has represented her community as a Councillor.
