Julia Matamoros is the Partnerships Officer of Canoo at the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC). Canoo is a mobile app that helps new Canadian citizens celebrate their citizenship by providing one year of free admission to museums, galleries, natural parks and performing arts across the country. Canoo connects new citizens to their community through participation in arts and culture; it also connects cultural institutions to a new and diverse audience, transforming the culture sector into a more inclusive space. Julia works with a national network of cultural institutions to create long-term relationships with Canoo members and advance inclusion by implementing feedback and insights. For the past decade, she has engaged the public with arts discussion and practice, working in different education and programming capacities at the Gardiner Museum of Ceramics, TIFF Bell Lightbox, Regent Park Film Festival, FUNARTE (Fundación de Apoyo al Arte Creador Infantil), Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre, and Dawson City Museum. She is interested in advancing inclusion and cultural innovation through collaboration with different sectors.
