María Isabel Grañén Porrúa holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from the Universidad Iberoamericana and a Doctorate in the same discipline from the Universidad de Sevilla.
She focused her field of study on “novohispano” etching, printing and books of the XVI century. She has several publications on this subject, as well as some children’s books on Mexican art.
She is President of the Fundación Alfredo Harp Helú Oaxaca, which promotes various ecological, sporting, educational and cultural projects, including 5 museums, 7 libraries and a restoration workshop for movable and immovable property.
She owns the Grañén Porrúa Bookstore in Oaxaca.
Dr. Grañén promotes the rescue of historical memory. She is the President of the civil association Apoyo al Desarrollo de Archivos y Bibliotecas de México and Director of the Biblioteca Francisco de Burgoa of UABJO, one of the most important collections of ancient books in Mexico and included in the Mexican Memory of the World Register by UNESCO.
She was recognized with the “Homage to the Bibliophile” by the International Book Fair of Guadalajara in 2012. She is part of the Consejo Honorario de la Memoria Histórica y Cultural de México.
