María Luisa Aguilar Rodríguez is a human rights defender. She has spent the last nine years working to promote accountability for human rights violations from two of the main human rights organizations in Mexico. She joined the Centro de Derechos Humanos Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez (Centro Prodh) after working in a grassroots organization in the state of Guerrero, a state known for its violence and human rights abuses. At Centro Prodh – an organization with more than thirty years of experience – María Luisa is dedicated to the design and implementation of national and international strategies for defense against serious human rights violations, mainly in cases of forced disappearances and sexual torture, with the objective of creating new mechanisms to denounce impunity in Mexico and guarantee access to justice and reparation for the victims. She holds a Master’s Degree in Theory and Practice of Human Rights at the University of Essex in England and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Mexico.
