Ulla Holmquist is an archaeologist from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (1992) and holds a Master’s Degree in Museology from the University of New York (1997). She is currently the Director of the Centro Cultural Inca Garcilaso of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Relations. From March to July of 2019 she was Minister of Culture of Peru. Between 2015 and 2018 she was Director of MUCEN, Museo Central del Banco Central de Reserva del Perú, and between 2018 and 2019 she was Director of the Museo Larco. She is also a university professor and lecturer on topics related to museology, museum pedagogy and pre-Columbian archeology and art.
Previously, she was Chief Curator and responsible for Academic and Cultural Affairs at Museo Larco (2008-2015), where she curated and directed the museographic renovation of the permanent exhibition. Between 2002 and 2007 she was in charge of the electronic cataloging of the museum’s collections, made up of more than 45,000 objects. Since 2007, the Museo Larco became the first American museum to make its entire collection publicly accessible. Previously, she was Assistant Director of the Museo Nacional de Arqueología, Antropología e Historia del Perú (2001), and curator of pre-Columbian art in the Museo de Arte de Lima – MALI (2002). Ulla Holmquist is committed to Museum Pedagogy, and is part of the team of multipliers of the Red de Pedagogía de Museos in Latin America and Peru .
