Amarela Varela Huerta

Amarela Varela Huerta holds a Doctoral Degree in Sociology from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, a Specialization in Migration from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid and a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Communication Studies from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Since 2008, she works as a professor / researcher at the Academy of Communication and Culture of the Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México. She is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores in Mexico. She has worked as a journalist and radio and television producer in the news field in Mexico and as a correspondent abroad. Her areas of research are migration and social movements, migrations of women from a feminist perspective. She has published the book Por el derecho a permanecer y a pertenecer, una sociología de la lucha de los migrantes (Traficantes de Sueños, Madrid; 2013) and coordinated a collective volume together with Alejandra Aquino and Fred Decossé: Desafiando fronteras. Control de la movilidad y experiencias migratorias en el contexto capitalista (Frontera Press Oaxaca; 2013). She has published academic articles in indexed journals and of scientific divulgation.
